THE STORY BEHIND S-FACTOR

From screenplay
to novel.

The story behind GingerBeard’s S-Factor began with two actors and a shared fascination with genetics. After meeting in a New Jersey theater production, Joe McClean and Joseph Campo developed a screenplay about a genetic crisis and the people confronting it. James D. Watson’s writing helped spark the idea, and McClean sent the screenplay to the scientist himself.

Months later, Watson called while McClean was working on a roof in New Jersey. A letter followed in December 2004, asking how the screenplay was progressing and inviting McClean to lunch. The screenplay remained unproduced, but the story kept growing. In 2009, McClean adapted the screenplay into a novel, beginning the next chapter of the project that became Rhys Beckett and the S-Factor.
